Don’t make a “Goal” instead make a “Promise”

This is the time of year that many of us start to think about ‘setting goals’.

I try to pull out my “Goal Plan” (a sheet of paper I wrote them on) to see where I am on their achievement on a regular basis.

I end up ‘hitting’ some and not others.

I started to give this more thought and study this month in anticipation of the New Year (Resolution). I came across a Bill Bateman video on iLG where he was talking about his “10 Step Goal Setting” process. It was all really good information – much that I had already learned, but it was good to revisit. He said ‘one thing’ that completely changed the way I’m looking at my personal and business ‘goal setting’.

He said to replace the word ‘Goal‘ with the word ‘Promise‘ when we go about this task. He offered up a study by Harvard that indicated that people “miss their Goals” 76% of the time – but “achieve their Promises” 98% – and that got me thinking about how my own mind interprets the difference between the two words.

First off, I am rare to make ‘Promises’ – I completely understand on a very “Conscious‘ level what that means and I always remember both Mom and Dad teaching ‘how you never make Promises you can’t keep’. Which explains on my subconscious level how I feel about this same word… It is to be taken very seriously!!!

As to ‘Goals’ – for some reason I seem to have an entirely different internal perspective about that word. I’ve made them most my life and if I did not achieve them I would refine either the goal or the time frame and simply forgive myself – or hit a mulligan (do it over).

This year I intend to do this one simply thing; I intend to create my ‘Promise Plan’ for 2009 and in it I intend to make some real ‘Promises’ on what I ‘will do’ both Personally and Business wise this coming year. So far the list is already much shorter as it forces me to ‘filter’ things better and interestingly it also ended up covering the ‘most’ important things.

Maybe this will help you as well. Best to you and yours in 2009 – I ‘Promise’ :)

The Golden (Platinum) Rule = The Social Networking Rule

We speak of it and we try to live by it – “treat others as you would like to be treated.”

To me it’s the main rule one needs to follow within Social Networking.

The Golden Rule was a common principle in ancient Greek philosophy.

A few examples:

“Do not to your neighbor what you would take ill from him.” (Pittacus)

“Avoid doing what you would blame others for doing.” (Thales)

“What you wish your neighbors to be to you, such be also to them.” (Sextus the Pythagorean)

“Do not do to others what would anger you if done to you by others.” (Isocrates)

“What thou avoidest suffering thyself seek not to impose on others.” (Epictetus)

A couple snippets from different world views…

Christianity:

Matthew 7:12
“So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.”

Luke 6:31
“Just as you want others to do for you, do the same for them.”

Judaism:

“That which is hateful to you, do not do to your fellow. That is the whole Torah; the rest is the explanation; go and learn.”

Buddhism:

“One who, while himself seeking happiness, oppresses with violence other
beings who also desire happiness, will not attain happiness hereafter.”

Confucius:

“Never impose on others what you would not choose for yourself.”

Hinduism:

“That man who regards all creatures as his own self, and behaves towards them as towards his own self, laying aside the rod of chastisement and completely subjugating his wrath, succeeds in attaining to happiness.”

Islam:

“Woe to those . . . who, when they have to receive by measure from men, exact full measure, but when they have to give by measure or weight to men, give less than due”

Taoism:

“Regard your neighbor’s gain as your own gain, and your neighbor’s loss as your own loss.”

The “The Platinum Rule” adds a nice addition to the “Golden Rule”…

“The golden rule is a good standard which is further improved by doing unto others, wherever possible, as they want to be done by.”

You’ll see lot’s of “Top 10 Rules of Social Networking” – pick any of the above and I think you’ll have it covered.

SiteManPro Software Review

sitemanproI had the privilege to test drive the program I am about share with you. It’s called SiteMan Pro or SiteManPro. It is an all-in-one software solution for all of us who do business online.

With this awesome piece of software, you won’t struggle anymore trying to keep track of your online sales, your customers and suppliers, even protect your downloads links and much more. SiteMan Pro or Sitemanpro is a must have tool. Once you try it, you can’t leave without it. It saves you time and money you would otherwise spend in other tools to accomplish what it does.

Some of its features are the ability to handle your vendors’ accounts, which is a great feature to use when you are outsourcing the so many tasks any internet market and business owner has to do at some point. You’ll be able to record payments automatically and manage your products and customers from one single place.

Another feature I love from SiteMan Pro is its ability to integrate it with my blogs without the need of plugins, turning them into an e-commerce solution while taking advantage of the benefits your receive by posting your articles in a blog, which is what Search Engines love.

SiteMan Pro is a dream come true for me and I am sure it will be for so many of us who do business online.

So, let me introduce you to some of the software features of SiteManPro.

First, this piece of software can be easily installed on your own domain. The SiteMan Pro software is composed of several sections or departments grouped into different tabs on the menu. So lets take a look at each tab:

The Home Tab

When you first log in, you’ll automatically see the Dashboard Section. The Dashboard will show general statistics about your business in general. For example, it will show you how much you have made in sales, total customers and suppliers, your expenses, your hypertracker links and keyword tracked.

From the main menu, you can navigate to the different areas. Under the Marketing tab, you’ll find the Hyper Tracker, Surveys and Market Research sections.

The Marketing Tab

The Hyper Tracker menu will allow you to cloak important links to your products or affiliate links as well as track the search engine keywords that are bringing you customers from your ppc or paper click ads. It will also show you the referrer addresses so that you can track where your traffic is coming from. This is a very powerful feature that will quickly show you if your marketing efforts are effective and as you expected. Otherwise, you can analyze the data and make the necessary changes to your marketing strategy.

Under the Surveys menu, you’ll find a tool to create unlimited surveys. Again, this is an important feature you can use to collect feedback from your customers regarding your services, products, and customer support and know instantly which areas of your business need improvement.

Under the Market Research menu, you can add unlimited feeds you want to ’spy’ on. You can use this feature to keep track of the latest news and trends in your competition.

The People Tab

The Contractors & Suppliers’ section will list and keep track of your current contractors and suppliers as well as to manage the projects activity and payments for their services rendered to you when you are outsourcing services for example.

The Contacts section is self explanatory. In this area you’ll gather your contact list.

The Finance Tab

In Accounts section is where you will setup your type of payments, for example, Paypal, manual entries, free products, etc. This way you can track where the funds are coming from.

The Expenses section is where you would manage your expenses and transaction account details, and more.

The Income section is where you would manage your income. Her you will see in details all products and services sold.

The Shop Tab

This is one of the most exiting areas of the software. Here is where you setup your digital product pages and controls their downloads. You can brand each product page with your own html if you which to brand them with your own company logos or product representation.

The Products section is where you manage your products. Here is where you setup each product, download links or pages, assign pricing, etc.

The Kunaki section will allow you to setup your products to be sold in a tangible form through Kunaki service. Very easy to setup and you will be able to track your Kunaki sales instantly.

The Customers’ section will give you in detail the order history for each customer. One of the great features of SiteManPro is that it doesn’t matter if your customers comes back many months later to purchase another product because a new account won’t be needed to be created for him. All his/her products purchased will appear at one place.

There are many other features that are being implemented into SiteMan Pro continuously. This is a product that no one doing business online should be without.

Simple Way to Add Full Motion Video to Your WordPress Blog

Blogs are one of the essential tools for getting more customers to our business. You and I know it and, everyone with a chance to getting a business relationship should get to know more about adding full motion video to their blogs. When it comes to using video with the best platforms for blogging, WordPress is the preferred content management software top marketers often prefer.

How could you then use the preferred WordPress blog platform to earn more and getting additional paid customers at the same time? It’s kind of tricky if you’re using any other type of blog platform that isn’t WordPress.

That’s why WordPress is so essential. It makes the process of adding your final produced video into its template a walk in the park. Are you ready to know how can you do it on your own?

Here’s the 1-2-3 process to embedding video on a WordPress blog:

Step 1: Get your camcorder on and ready to work. Make a video presentation about your company, your service, yourself, or your product. If you’re not the technical lover or just prefer to have the work done by someone else, then hire a video production company or video editor to edit your videos and transform them into a useful infomercial or web commercial.

Step 2: Get the final work and ask for feedback about it. If the feedback and testimonials are often great, then you would definitely want to play the video from your WordPress blog. How so?

Step 3: If you don’t know how to upload and make your video right from your own servers, you can then upload your video to YouTube as an alternative. Once you’ve uploaded your video successfully, it’s time for letting everyone know. Just copy and paste the embedded code created by YouTube into your WordPress blog post where you want it to appear while in HTML view (see image below), and then hit the publish button when you are done editing your post.

You’ve just made your video available to all on the web live from your WordPress blog! Isn’t that fun once you get it done? You bet that is. Just hope you share the same enthusiasm.

Web Hosting Profist – Part 1

In this article, you’ll learn how to start & make money from your own Webhosting business with budget capital. This is a two part article on how to profit as a webhost reseller.

Since 2003, I have profited from webhosting as a business, offering webhosting and domain name registration services to countless number of corporate and individuals and making good income on a regular monthly basis doing it.

Unfortunately, however, most of the people I have taught website hosting to as a business are always afraid of getting started because they feel they must be a “guru” to offer such a service. Nothing is however farther from the truth. Even a “bum” straight off the street can run a successful webhosting business without breaking a sweat and the truth is: You don’t need to know a line of technical code nor even understand how Linux Servers work before you can become a webhost.

In this article, all the salient points will be covered and in a few minutes from now, you will be totally ready to start offering webhosting services to customers.

Here are the topics covered to get you started fast:

  • How To Choose A Good Webhost
  • What To Buy As A Starter
  • How To Setup Hosting Packages
  • How To Create Webhosting Accounts for Customers
  • How To Manage Customers
  • Getting Help When Stuck
  • Creating Sales Pitches That Attract Customers
  • How To Add Domain Name Registration Services

How To Choose A Good Webhost

In truth, the challenges of being a webhosting are just too great that it will be crazy if you decide to start a full-blown website hosting business immediately – install your own servers, get staff, sort technical details, marketing EXCEPT of course you know what you are doing and have the funds to pull it off.

For me… that’s just too much of an effort. I want something that I can setup today and start taking customers before this week ends!

The key is to approach existing website hosting companies and buy a portion of their web-server (hosting space) or hard disk. Once the purchase is made, you can then sit down to analyze how to make the most profit from it. It is extremely easy and anyone can do it.

The first decision you will take however is perhaps the most important decision and it goes a long way to determine the success or failure of your new business. For the record, your business is only as strong as the webhost you choose and this is why you need to choose a good webhost from day one.

To help you make this decision, here are a few questions you should ask:

What Kind Of Hosting Do I Want To Offer?

There are two main types of hosting servers (there are others but these two are the main ones) – Windows and Linux. While windows as an operating system is very common on PCs, I choose to believe that Linux based servers are far more popular than the Window servers (my opinion).

So, first, decide if you want a Window based reseller webhosting or a Linux based reseller hosting. To tell the truth, I did not know any distinguishing factors existed when I started BUT I started out with Linux hosting. So decide – do you want a Windows based server or a Linux based Server? Or better still do you want both? When you go searching, your decision will help out.

Server Uptime Guarantee

What is the up-time guarantee of the webhosting provider you choose to use for your business? By uptime, we mean how often will they mess you up by not being available for you and your clients and how well will they be available to meet your needs? In my opinion, if they promise anything less than 99.9% uptime guarantee, walk away and find another webhost.

A very helpful tip would be to track how often the site goes down. Use a tool, included with my webhost reseller account, named Competition Witness to track this 24/7 and it will help you reach a logical conclusion.

Customer Support

What is their support like? Do they reply emails? If yes, how fast?

You won’t understand how valuable this piece of advice is until you need help with something and your webhost can’t be reached or won’t reply your emails!

Before you use their service, start sending emails to them. Ask them a lot of questions. Ask stupid questions. Try to make them angry. Shout at them. Insult them. Just do a lot of things to turn them off and make them neglect your emails. If they pass the test, they are probably good enough for you.

Another thing to watch out for is that they have a 24/7 support team. You want to make sure you can reach them on holidays and even on week-ends. In the last 3 years, I have had to maintain accounts with 3 different webhosts and I have come to realize what support can mean.

One webhost takes between 2 hours to 24 hours to get me a response. This is actually the first webhost I ever used and I used to think it was ok but I realized later that when there is a crisis, they just keep quiet and refuse to respond to emails/support tickets. I have had to wait for over 48 hours with my site being down and customers yelling and even recently, they’ve given a heck of troubles and even as I write this, I am screaming and wondering why I chose them in the first place.

The second webhost has a 15 minutes response time even on holidays. Quite good I thought, until I got the webhost I now use for all our enterprise online services: GVO.

With this service, there is 24/7 online support and non of my enquiries has ever gone beyond 5 minutes.

Package and Pricing

Webhosting has become competitive. If you look well enough, you will get an affordable and excellent service that suits your pocket. For example, it is not uncommon to get $ 99 per year for a 3Gig (or more of reseller hosting) space or a $ 5 per month hosting that can get you started conveniently.

One thing I am wary of however is that the cheaper the pricing and package offered, the more the crowd the hosting service provider will have to eventually deal with. While some companied might be able to deal with this effectively, a most will compensate with decreased support quality and the more efficient the support, the better your business.

Company Policy and Service Terms

You must carefully read the webhost’s policy to find out if they have “hidden lines” not obvious to the careless eyes. When you are not clear, ask questions. This seemingly small action can save you a lot of trouble. For instance, you will know before hand, what types of websites they reject on their servers, what type of services you or your customers cannot run on their servers, etc.

How Long Have They Been In Business?

A company older than 5 years old is less likely to mess you up. Also, find out what others are saying about them online. Visit forums and chat rooms and find out if people have used their services and find it good enough.

How Many Domains Are You Permitted To Host?

Stay away from anything less than unlimited if you want to be a hosting reseller.

Features Given & Limits

This differs. Some will give you an online website builder which you and your clients can build websites within minutes. Others will give you features, then control the extent to which you can use these features and yet some others will allow you to use features freely as long as your hosting package can carry the strain.

The important thing about features is that to a large extent, you can use it to enhance your webhosting services and make your business have more “meat” than the competitors by offering additional features.

Common features include:

  • Cgi access
  • Webhost Manager
  • Autoresponders
  • Mailing List Managers
  • Auto Script Installers
  • Web-based Email
  • MySql
  • Fantastico
  • Spam Assasin
  • And a host of others…

Go for a webhost that allows you access to unlimited resources as regards these features because when it comes to beating competition, that comes in handy.

Bandwith and Server Resources Given

For every disk space you purchase, there is an associated bandwith. This is loosely called data transfer. Each time someone visits a website, downloads something or uploads something, there is an amount of bandwith resources used. The bandwith you are given will thus be shared among your clients as they demand webhosting packages.

You should lookout for your bandwith restrictions for any package you buy and also check out what happens for instance when a site with a lot of customers on your account makes heavy use of server resources like sending 3000 emails to customers at a time.

At a time when we used a mailing list script on one of our servers and were sending 2000 emails at a go, before we moved over to a more professional mailing list service or autoresponder, we kept getting shut down for unusual activity. Knowing before hand helps, so that you can advice your customers to put measures in place to prevent issues. This issue was resolved with my GVO reseller account as they understand the importance of having a mailing list and growing it.

How Easy Is It To Change Plans?

Lets assume business got so good and you sold all your space in 1 month. Can you move to a larger webhosting plan without squabbles and downtimes? Please ask! The last thing you want is to have your entire service down for hours because you needed to change plans.

Do You Want A Dedicated Or Shared Server?

With a dedicated server, you are given a disk space dedicated exclusively to you while a shared server has a lot of other users on it. Except when you have the resources or a client requests it specifically, a shared hosting will do fine for a starter.

As your business grows, however, you may need to have a dedicated server of your own. One major advantage of having a dedicated server is that you get more control and you can even re-sell hosting to other resellers which is one of the “coolest” ways to make money in the webhosting business.

Read The FAQs

This is more of a tip. As you visit sites and shop for your choice webhosting provider, make sure you read the FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) posted on the sites you visit. They are usually quite informative.

Webhosting Recommendations

My best pick is Global Virtual Opportunities (GVO).

I pick them and recommend them because they have the best customer support I have seen so far with 24/7 presence. No issue has ever gone past 5 minutes without getting someone on the case. And they have the most complete set of tools anyone running a business online will ever need; and everything is included in your package. These set of tools will help you make money with your website regardless of the business you are promoting.

Understanding Webconferencing

Web conferencing is used to conduct live meetings or presentations over the Internet. Online meetings and webinars are an essential part of today’s business world. In the early years of the Internet, the term “web conferencing” was often used to refer to group discussions conducted within a message board (via posted text messages) therefore not live, but the term has evolved to refer specifically to “live” meetings; while the posted message variety of discussion is called a “forum“, “bulletin board“, or “message board“.

Video conferencing makes it easy to connect (communicate) with people anywhere in the world, so your interview company announcements, and meetings feels more personal. Distance meetings come to life when you meet over video.

Conferencing software offers desktop sharing, VoIP (void over IP), webcam support, interactive whiteboard, firewall compatibility. Fully integrated audio and web conferencing requires just an internet-connected browser and a microphone or a phone and a webcam for video conferencing. Integrated web, audio and video conferencing makes web meetings, webinars, audio conferencing, online training seminars and multi-point video conferencing easier and more productive. Now you can hold meetings with people around the world without leaving your office bringing people together for virtual meetings. This saves time and travel costs and gives your conferences more impact.

Solutions include audio conferences, web conferences, fully integrated audio and web meetings, interactive seminars, online training, video conferences, webinars, and 24 hour customer support.
Web conferencing is often sold as a service, hosted on a web server controlled by the vendor, either on a usage basis (cost per user per minute) or for a fixed fee (cost per “seat”), or even a monthly fee.

Advantages

Personalize your sales meetings by including video with your desktop web camera. Web conferencing is great for small, collaborative meetings as well as for large business meetings, and international conferences. It is also great for meetings with distant family members.

Web conferencing allows you to have better meetings with less investment in time and travel and can be used as a cost-effective complement to travel and face-to-face meetings. Use online web meetings to present information, share applications, and collaborate on projects with customers, partners, and colleagues around the globe as easily as if you were side by side. Non-technical business professionals can now easily record meetings and presentations and create interactive presentations from in-house conference rooms.

Your meetings are private if you so desire, and your desktop privacy is under your control. Web conferencing services are perfectly suited for one-on-one, or one-to-many coaching sessions, business meetings, tele-seminars, and other business functions.

Presentations

The conferencing software must have some capacity for sharing Power Point presentations and real-time voice conversations, but primarily a one-to-many broadcast format is a must. Power Point presentations are critical in the virtual environment to provide visual stimulation and cues for the attendees. Choosing web conferencing service or software for your business requires a lot of consideration and a familiarity with the types of online collaboration software and resources for web meetings available.

Features

Some of the features you might look for in an online meeting tool include: presentation, desktop, and application sharing; text chat, voice (either via phone or Voice over IP), video, whiteboarding and annotations. Two-way screen sharing so that attendees can become presenters. This is a much cheaper way to bring individuals together for meetings, transactions, sales pitch, etc. A growing number of business people around the world are conducting internet meetings as an in-person meeting alternative.

Typical features of a
web conference include: slide presentations (often created through PowerPoint), Live video (via webcam or digital video camera), VoIP (Real time audio communication through the computer via use of headphones and speakers). Few providers offer multi-user VoIP (voice activated full duplex headsets) for all participants, most have a limitation of a single microphone or must take turns talking.

In conclusion, video conferencing is more relevant than ever, and the benefits are significant. Users can quickly set up and manage virtual meetings from any telephone or computer microphone resulting in better communication and collaboration along with a significant cost savings advantage over traditional audio conferencing services. Make computer conferencing an integral part of your course or meetings.
