So, you think you might be pregnant?
You have been told that you might have some strange sensations or symptoms so you were prepared for mood changes, appetite changes and maybe even a change in your sleeping habits, but what about these?
- You see bulging purple or black veins in very odd places
- Leaking when laughing
- Bits of skin growing in your armpits
- Your nipple is starting to flatten look like it may take over your breasts
- You feel a sudden urge to sit in a bucket of ice
Have no fear! These may not be symptoms you ever expected or heard about, but they are also perfectly normal for some people. When you are pregnant, your body is producing extra melanin which is responsible for hyperpigmentation — odd spots and darkening in interesting places. Hormonal changes can create those funny looking skin tags. Your metabolism is on overdrive so the extra blood pumping through your body warms the skin.
If you are thinking of getting pregnant or already pregnant, the midwives of Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill (WHA) are here to help you understand your body and more importantly, to empower you to make decisions for yourself based on your body’s specific way of reacting to and tolerating pregnancy.
