Food-Aid International announces “Summer Food Drive”

Raleigh, NC, 8/6/12 – Did you know that Hunger remains the No.1 cause of death in the world ahead of AIDS and Cancer? Did you also know that every six seconds a child dies because of hunger and related causes?

To join the fight against poverty and world hunger, Food-Aid International, Inc. (Food-Aid), a Raleigh-based 501c3 non-profit, is launching a summer food drive starting August 6, 2012 to August 31, 2012. The mission of the food drive is to stock the shelves of the Triangle Vineyard Food Pantry, Raleigh, NC, so they can rapidly respond to the hunger crisis in Wake County.

Non-perishable food donations can be dropped off at Lafayette Village Executive Building, 8480 Honeycutt Road, Suite 200, Raleigh, NC 27615 (North Raleigh, just off I-540) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays. Jenayalynn Combs Riojas of Integrative Conflict Resolution is the building contact for the food drive.

For Wake County, their food-insecurity rate, percentage of the food-insecure population that did not qualify for food stamps or other federal nutrition programs, and additional funds required to meet their food needs in 2009 was:

118,680 people or 14.3 percent food-insecure, 51 percent did not qualify, $ 51.3 million needed.

It is estimated that the number of families who need services from Food-Aid International will increase during the next five years. While our domestic program services the entire state of North Carolina, we are starting with proactive activities in Wake County. Our goal is to work hand-in-hand with existing programs and agencies to fight the devastating epidemic known as Hunger.

Tax deductible donations can be made online at www.food-aid.org or sent to Food-Aid International, P.O. Box 21062, Raleigh, NC 27619-1062.
