Apex Jazz Festival

First, my thanks to Pat for sending out the invitation. We had several neighbors who were interested in going and your little piece tipped us over the edge. What a surprise!! The crowd was incredible. Lots of wonderful people enjoying an evening in a small town atmosphere. Some folks may well have thought the event was so crowded that it got out of control. After all, some restaurants ran out of food, we couldn’t get into many of the music venues because they were jammed to the window sills. Waiting for a meal where you could get in took an hour or more. And we loved it!

Having organized events in the past, i can appreciate the challenge of anticipating how many will show up. It is horribly expensive to over plan, and disappointment rules when we under plan. What I took away from this event was that so many folks came out. Maybe the crowd was much bigger than anticipated. I’m sure that next year adjustments will be made. I think the folks of Apex outdid themselves in delivering a exciting event for their town. The many who came out proved we are indeed willing to support our local communities. Hats off to Apex and all of the many folks who were buried under the crush of all of us who attended. We had a wonderful time.

The 2nd Annual Apex Jazz (with Awesome Blues) Festival is Tomorrow!

Tomorrow afternoon and evening, all of Downtown Apex will be considered the Peak of Great Jazz and Blues as the 2nd Annual Apex Jazz Festival takes over the town for fun and awesome musical entertainment. While last year’s festival featured only Jazz, the organizers of this second annual event have included a broader variety of music that will feature a number of Blues acts as well as Jazz all along North Salem Street!

This year’s Halle Cultural Arts Center headliner is the great Seth Walker originally from Austin via Nashville who blends blues and jazz. Other notable Blues performers on the bill are the Piedmont Blues greats Ironing Board Sam and Big Ron Hunter. Mark Holland, formerly with the 90s-era Chapel Hill band Jennyanykind, will also deliver his gritty style of acoustic Blues.

For those coming to the festival for the great Jazz experience, the favorite this year is former Squirrel Nut Zippers lead, Katharine Whalen with her newly-formed Katharine Whalen Trio.

Tickets for the 2ND ANNUAL APEX JAZZ FESTIVAL are available now at www.apexjazzfestival.com. Tickets for the outdoor stage and all of the pub venues are ONLY $ 10. There are plenty of tickets available!

We are excited to have the JAZZ BEER GARDEN this year (an Apex first for 21 and older) and look forward to seeing everyone enjoying themselves as they Pub Crawl down Salem Street going in and out of a multitude of venues!

There will be a ticket sales tent and a will call tent that will be up and manned starting at Noon in front of the Beer Garden, on the Chamber parking lot at 220 North Salem Street at Center Street across from Common Grounds.

See you at the best Festival in the Triangle; the Apex Jazz Festival!
